Spokane Homelands 27k

A rare opportunity to run on the trails on the Spokane Indian Reservation. The race start/finish is located on the Westend of the reservation, approximately 35 miles north of Davenport, WA, 10 miles south of Fruitland, WA.

The start/finish is held at the Anderson Ranch, owned & operated by the Spokane Tribal Department of Natural Resources. Runners will exist the ranch and follow the highway briefly up to Carpenter Road (gravel road). The road has a gradual climb before cutting off onto a side fire road and cattle guard. This road will take runners up and through the burn scar from the Carpenter Road Fire in 2015. Once back in the timber, runners may come across elk (wildlife may be present throughout the duration of the race). At about 5 miles in you will reach your first aid station. Limited supplies here but runners may want to take a second to gather themselves before the steep climb.

From here runners will follow a washed-out fire road up a draw up towards the Westend Lookout tower. This time of year there should be water on course, watch your footing but do not drink without filtration. There should be more than enough aid to prevent the need to drink the runoff. There will be a road junction after, keep left and keep climbing. Poles could be useful during this climb. As you climb higher you will begin to see the Spokane River and eventually Columbia River. You can look down below at the race start and once you reach the lookout tower you will have an aid station to fuel before you hammer the decent taking the same route back to the start
